Darren Rudge was invited to design and install a memorial garden that honours the ultimate sacrifice made by the soldiers from Willenhall in World War One at Willenhall Memorial Park.
The pergola of peace where roses ‘Peace’ and ‘Serenity’ clothe it’s oak beams and a stumpery reflects the fallen returning to nature. All this is pulled together by a naturalistic planting style and a pathway to meander peacefully.
Sleeper upstands have signs that list the battles Willenhall soldiers were involved with the numbe 445 relating to those lost in world war 1. Bronze sculpture finishes this display.
This garden featured on BBC Midlands Today with Beckle Wood reporting ; Thank you Willenhall for inviting us to undertake a very thought provoking and sobering project.
