Naturally Playful

Naturally Playful was awarded a Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal and Best in Show Awards in the show garden category.

Co designed with fellow design colleague Helen Wood Naturally Playful’s brief was “By exploring the world around us and interacting
with nature, the garden reminds children just how good playing in the great outdoors can be.”

A natural playground for children to explore

A natural playground for children to explore and learn about their world which incorporated trees to climb and scramble under, mud pools, rocks and logs to turn over and explore wildlife. With a tunnel to scramble through, a hide to watch birds from, sandpit and log to sit on, nettles and thorns from a hawthorn hedge so children can experience danger, but most of all children are given the opportunity to experience the wealth a natural space can bring to them.

The garden featured on the BBC Gardeners World Programme and BBC Midlands Today, plus gained local and national press; many local schools also contacted the design team for advice or implementation of a natural play space within their school boundaries.
