Codsall Barn Conversion

It Was Time for a Makeover of the Front and Rear Gardens.

Jo and Tony have lived in there barn conversion for quite sometime and decided it was time for a makeover of the front and rear gardens.

The front garden forms part of the Staffordshire Way a route used by many walkers and the brief here was to create something stunning but appropriate for the walkers to see as they wondered past on their travels.

The rear garden is dominated by a large, tall conifer hedge and borders that lacked interest, large mature shrubs, plus a seating area constructed from sandstone blocks that had never been used due to its location to the large hedge.

The front garden was split into three areas using simple archways

The front garden, being a long thin space, was split into three areas using simple archways, with a meandering gravel pathway put into place, leading to a simple seating area with raised bed. A Japanese style of planting was put in place as the clients already had a small collection of Acers (Japanese maples) that were added to the scheme. This added to the already stunning and mature Wisteria that runs the length of the property.

Shrubs pruned and then planted with a range of perennials

In the rear garden areas were cleared, shrubs pruned and then planted with a range of perennials and shrubs, plus the existing seating area was demolished and the reclaimed sandstone used as a raised bed at the foot of a stylish gazebo. Driftwood sculptures were also used in each bed to add a focal point and interest.

The clients now have a front garden that matches the style of the property, simple but stylish with a Japanese twist, something for walkers to stand a while and take a few minutes to look and contemplate on their travels past, and a rear garden that gives colour and interest throughout the year, somewhere to relax, party and indulge in their passion for plants. Both areas now have a fresh feel, that match their countryside location, with a link to Japanese culture and contemporary cues.
